New Zealand

New Zealand has experienced one of the most rapid and extensive loss of native ecosystems and endemic species of any nation. This is because of it’s millenia of isolation prior to the arrival frist of Polynesian peoples and later the colonisation by Europeans. Native fauna and florahad become perfectly adapted to the New Zealand climate and landscape but was extremely vulnerable to the threats posed by invasive species. Consequently New Zealand has been forced to deal rapidly and proifessionally with its conservation issues.

The many and varied conservation challenges in New Zealand mean it’s a great place to learn of novel and successful conservation methods. This page will shortly contain details of some of these examples and links to excellent conservation resources in New Zealand.

Sri Lanka

CONSERVATION

Sri Lanka is a nation of extreme natural beauty and contains a wealth of biodiversity. Unfortunately it is also a nation suffering great pressures on those natural resources. Conservation is still in its technical infancy but several excellent programmes are now established which will hopefully set the tome for a new era in adaptive conservation management within the country.
